8th Grade Purity Commitment

Students face a wide range of attitudes on purity within their culture.

We believe it is important that students (and their parents) are informed about
and understand, in an open and spiritually healthy forum, the commitment to
remain sexually
pure.   We offer classes and a commitment ceremony to
encourage and support students with this important decision.

When are the classes and parent sessions and is there a cost?

The 3 student classes are February 8, 15, 22 from 7- 9 pm.

Guys will meet in the Student Union (Room C-214)
Girls will meet in Room B205

The parent sessions are the same dates and time as the student classes.
Parents will meet in Room A207.  These meetings will be led by Tom Cowles.

The cost of the classes/sessions is FREE.

What topics are covered in the classes?

    • Why Wait?  God’s Design for Sex and the Importance of Purity.
    • What’s the Truth about Sex and Who is Responsible for Purity?
    • Real Life:  A Panel Discussion answering questions about living a life of purity.
There are a variety of people (older parents, students, singles, engaged, young married couples) who share their testimonies.

When is the ceremony and is there a cost?

A special ceremony will be on March 2 from 7-9 pm in the Gym.

A registration fee of $10 helps us offset the cost of the ceremony.

Please contact the office at 703.813.1951 if you would like to attend the ceremony and have not registered yet.

What is the format of the ceremony?  Is there space for all family members?

At the ceremony parents and youth ministry leaders will honor and encourage students in their
desire to make this important decision.  While we know this is a special time for the whole family,
due to space restraints, the ceremony is limited to students and their parents.

In addition, parents often honor their son or daughter at the ceremony with a special token of the
commitment they are making with a special ring, necklace, or other token.

The Immanuel Christian bookstore offers a 20% discount on items that are purchased on or before
Sunday, February 12.  Orders after that date, will be placed as soon as possible, but cannot
guarantee arrival by the ceremony.
